Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continue their Hollywoodbets Super League campaign with a highly anticipated derby clash against the University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium on Friday evening, as the reigning champions look to build on their emphatic opening-day victory.
Banyana Ba Style opened the new league season in dominant fashion with a 6-0 victory over Diepkloof Ladies, showcasing the attacking quality and intensity that have become synonymous with the Club.
However, despite the impressive scoreline, the team remains focused on the challenge ahead as they prepare for a University of Pretoria side eager to make a statement in front of their home supporters.
Defender Asanda Hadebe believes the opening victory provided a positive foundation, but insists the squad understands that a different test awaits this weekend.
“The 6-0 result was a great way for us to start the season and it showed the hard work we put in during pre-season. We played with confidence, created good chances and performed well as a team. While we are happy with the result, we know there are still areas we can improve. The focus now is on staying grounded, working hard and bringing the same intensity and hunger into the next match.”
Hadebe is expecting an intense derby atmosphere and understands the significance of the fixture for both teams.
“Derbies are always special because there is a different level of emotion attached to them. There is pride involved, there are bragging rights involved and there is always a strong desire from both teams to prove themselves. For us, that creates extra motivation because we know what it means to represent this badge and maintain the standards that have been established over the years. However, we also understand that emotions alone do not win football matches. We have to remain disciplined, trust our game plan and make smart decisions throughout the ninety minutes.”
Striker Nthabiseng Majiya echoed those sentiments and believes the team established a strong platform with their opening-day performance.
“I think we set a good tone for the start of the season with both our performance and the result. We showed confidence, worked hard for each other and executed our game plan well. The win gives us belief, but it also reminds us of the standards we need to maintain throughout the season. We know every opponent will challenge us, so we have to keep working and improving.”
Majiya is also looking forward to the derby atmosphere and the opportunity to perform in front of passionate supporters.
“It is always exciting to play in a derby because of the special atmosphere and energy that the supporters bring. We know fans from both sides will be there, which makes the occasion even more enjoyable. These are the matches players look forward to, and we want to reward our supporters with another strong performance.”
The match between Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies and the University of Pretoria will take place at Tuks Stadium on Friday, 19 June 2026, at 18H00.
