Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies continued their impressive start to the Hollywoodbets Super League season with a dominant 4–0 win over the University of Pretoria at Tuks Stadium on Friday evening.
The Brazilians wasted no time asserting control, with Karabo Dhlamini breaking the deadlock in the 12th minute through a beautifully struck curling effort from outside the penalty area.
Pressure continued to mount, and in the 20th minute, Tuks were forced into a costly own goal while attempting to deal with sustained attacking pressure.
By the 32nd minute, Noxolo Cesane added a third goal, finishing off a well-worked attacking sequence that highlighted the team’s fluid passing and confidence in transition. Late in the game, substitute Munashe Mugwara added a fourth goal in the 84th minute, capping off a disciplined and professional performance from the bench and reinforcing the squad’s depth and attacking options.
Once again, midfield influence proved decisive, with Nonhlanhla Mthandi delivering another standout performance to earn her second consecutive Player of the Match award.
“Today’s game was very positive for us as a team. I think we played really good football, we combined well in different phases of play and we were able to convert the chances we created. What made me happiest was that a lot of what we did on the pitch came directly from what we worked on during training. It shows that we are improving in terms of understanding each other and applying our game model consistently in matches.”
New signing Wendy Shongwe also contributed to the team’s strong performance and reflected on how quickly she is adapting to the squad’s playing style and expectations.
“I think the team performed very well today. It is always encouraging when you can score goals and still feel that there is more to come from the group in terms of performance and chemistry. For me personally, I am settling in well and I am really looking forward to contributing more. My next target is to open my goal account for Sundowns, but more importantly, to keep helping the team win and compete at a high level every week.”
The result means that Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies top the Super Era log in the Hollywoodbets Super League table with a maximum of 6 points from two matches played, having scored 10 goals and conceded none.
