Orlando Pirates’ scoring spree continued for yet another month and one of the wonderstrikes that excited fans over the last few weeks is set to be crowned the Suzuki Goal of the Month for April, with the help of votes from the Bucs faithful.
Throughout April, the Buccaneers continued to hold their place in a tight two-horse race for the Betway Premiership title, stretching their remarkable unbeaten run to nine matches. Picking up where they had left off in March, they kicked the month off in fine style with a five-goal demolition of Lamontville Golden Arrows, setting the tone for another productive spell in front of goal where they found the net 11 times in just four games.
Seven of these goals stood out above the rest, making this month’s shortlist for the Suzuki Goal of the Month award.
The list of nominees is unsurprisingly dominated by goals from the dominant home victory against Abafana Besthende, where Oswin Appollis’ opener features alongside both goals from Relebehile Mofokeng’s brace on the night. The two players were on the scoresheet once more in the 3-0 win against AmaZulu, along with striker Yanela Mbuthuma who netted a cheeky header to open the scoring.
All three goals against Usuthu have made the cut, with defender Lebone Seema’s stunning equaliser away to Richards Bay taking the list of nominees to seven.
